Ukrainian community unfurls the province’s largest flag at Cape Spear for Ukraine’s Flag Day

Members of the Ukrainian community in Newfoundland and Labrador gathered at Cape Spear on August the 23rd, Ukraine’s Day of the National Flag, to unfurl a hand-sewn flag made by Iryna Seheda, who is originally from Kharkiv and arrived in St. John’s in 2022. She sewed the flag herself as a volunteer.

Participants say the gathering is one of the few times in the year the community stands together in one place, and a way to pass language, roots and belonging on to children being raised in the province.
